Our Analysis and Test Results
This high-value glove is an all-around performer offering warmth, protection, and all the features you need to get you from the ski hill and back. It was considered for our Best Buy Award as it offers better weather protection but lost given its higher relative price. This glove is well-constructed and a fantastic option to consider if you're looking for a more durable, high-value glove option this winter. Plus, it has cute color options.
Performance Comparison
Warmth
This glove offers a medium amount of warmth that'll keep you warm during most days of winter. It is built with the insulation stacked into the body, with the option for a removable liner, which gives you the possibility to add a little more warmth or take it away throughout the day.
While it's not rated for the coldest days or expeditions out there, its perfect for resort skiing in both wet and dry climates. It is built with ThermaCore, compressive, yet warm synthetic insulation.
The gloves are both stretchy and breathable, so moisture can escape, effectively keeping your hands warmer when you go from crushing moguls to hanging out on the chairlift. If you are a lady whose hands run cold, you may need a little more warmth on the coldest days of winter, but if you run hot, the breathability of it will be just perfect.
Water Resistance
This glove is quite water-resistant, performing well both on the hill and in our water tests. Tested in winter conditions, the nylon shell on the exterior of the jacket beads up water without too much absorption. The DWR treatment helps here.
The DryRide liner also aids in making sure that no water gets through to the interior of the glove, even when the exterior is saturated. The leather palm is quite pliable, breathable, and water-resistant.
During our water tests, the glove only absorbed 2.37 oz of water, which is one par with our top performers. No water penetrated through the glove after being immersed in water and squeezing the glove 100 times. Don't be afraid to use it in dry or wet weather. It'll protect and perform. Just note that the nose wipe does saturate more easily than the rest of the glove.
Dexterity
We tested the Deluxe while backcountry skiing, shoveling snow, and driving around town. The material of the glove is quite mobile, with the palm being pliable and thin. The insulation seems to be stacked away from the palm of the glove, allowing you to grasp items more easily. These traits lend themselves to good dexterity.
However, the fingers are not as thin as some other gloves we tested. The more rigid nylon material adds some thickness, making this glove less dexterous than our highest performers. That said, you'll still be able to use your gloved hands for the majority of the things you'll do at the ski resort, or while in the backcountry.
Durability
This glove seems well constructed with an average level of durability amongst our top performers. The full leather palm has reinforced material throughout the thumb, with good looking stitching throughout.
The DWR treatment on the nylon shell is bound to wear off, bumping down its performance over time. However, with proper treatment of the palm and the nylon, it will surely last for a long time. This glove is constructed of high-quality materials, and given you don't lose a liner or mistreat it, it'll treat you well.
Features
In addition to warmth, dexterity, and versatility, this glove includes all the features you need for traveling the resort all season long. Burton included perks like a nose wipe, wrist adjusters, and one-pull wrist cuff closure. We also appreciate the removable leashes.
Also, you can switch out the liners for something warmer if you prefer. Speaking of liners, they are smartphone-compatible, which means communication on the mountain is easier.
The gauntlet size isn't very large, but so long as your jacket doesn't have huge cuffs, it'll work well to keep snow out of your sleeves. The two-gloved construction allows you to add or take away insulation as you need.
Value
This glove was considered for our Best Buy Award simply because it does well across the board. Unlike our current Best Buy Award winner, it offers better weather protection and is indeed a better performer; however, it is more expensive. If you live in wet climates and need a high-value glove, this is the one we'd recommend to you. Any ladies that prefer a glove to a mitt and appreciates quality construction at a great price will find the value in this option. And if you can buy it on sale, that would push this glove over into our favorite glove on a smaller budget.
Conclusion
The Burton Deluxe Glove offers great performance across all the metrics for a wonderful price. It was considered for our Best Buy Award given its great overall value. If you live in wet climates and need a glove that'll perform for a good price, this is the one.
