The Best Camping Chair Review |
|
|
We took seven of the best camping chairs and tested them side-by-side in the mountains, at the beach, and at the park for some summer barbecues. Through our testing we have found which chair performs the best all-around, which chair gives you the most bang for your buck, the most comfortable chair, and the lightest chair. If you are looking for a lighter and more compact chair, see our Backpacking Chair Review.

OutdoorGearLab Editors' Hands-on Review
Comfort
Chairs are meant to be sat in, and if you are planning on buying one, we suggest that you get one that is comfortable. Now keep in mind that some of the chairs we tested may be more comfortable or less comfortable depending on your size and shape. For instance, the Travelchair Easy Rider wouldn't be very comfortable for someone who has wide hips, but could be very comfortable for someone who has narrow hips. After months of testing we have decided that the most comfortable chair is the Top Pick award-winning Eureka Curvy Chair. This chair is extremely large and has padded ventilation right where it counts. The second most comfortable chair won our Editors' Choice award, the Coleman Oversize Quad Chair with Cooler. This chair is almost as comfortable as the Eureka but lacks the padding. Durability Durability is essential if you plan to spend some money on a chair and want it to last more than one season. The most durable chairs we tested were the Alite Manits Chair and the REI Flex Lite Chair. These chairs have a more durable frame than their competitors because of their unique suspension technology. The next most durable chair we tested was the Travelchair Easy Rider. This thing is built like a tank and is the most sturdy chair we tested with plenty of comfort. Ease of Use The Travelchair Slacker Chair is the most convenient and the easiest chair to use. All you do is undo the Velcro strap, set it where you want to sit, and you are done. Keep in mind that this chair is not the most comfortable chair, but if you need a very small chair that's ready to go all the time, then check out the review. Other than this chair the Eureka Curvy Chair, the Coleman Oversize Quad Chair with Cooler, and the Travelchair Easy Rider were the next easiest to use. They scored lower because of their bags, and because it just took a little longer to unfold and to put them away. Packing Size Packing size is very important when selecting a camping chair. You need to make sure that you are going to have enough room for it in your car or on top of it. The REI Flex Lite Chair and the Alite Mantis Chair pack down the smallest and are also the lightest chairs that we tested. They are small enough to be used for backpacking as well. However, if you have more room to spare in your vehicle then we suggest getting a larger more comfortable chair so that you can camp in luxury. The Coleman Oversize Quad Chair with Cooler is probably three to four times larger but is cheaper and more comfortable. Storage Storage is important to think about when buying a new camping chair. The Coleman Oversize Quad Chair with Cooler has the most storage of all the chairs we tested. It has a cup holder on one arm, a cooler pouch on the other arm, and a mesh pocket for your keys, books, or whatever you feel like putting in it. The only other chair we tested with a cup holder on the arm is the Travelchair Easy Rider. The Eureka Curvy Chair is the only other chair that has storage abilities. — Devin Chance Buying Advice
