Born and raised in South Lake Tahoe, David Wise received his Bachelor of Science in Ocean Engineering from MIT, where he worked on the Formula SAE racecar team, built underwater gliders with the marine robotics team, and created and taught interactive STEAM curriculum to local schools in the community with the MIT Edgerton Center. After graduation, David moved to the bay area to work for a company creating autonomous underwater vehicles used for exploring the deep ocean and mapping the terrain. Unable to resist the mountains' calling, he returned to Tahoe in 2016 to join OutdoorGearLab as a Senior Review Editor. When he's not working on the world’s most in-depth product reviews, David is usually mountain biking, nordic or alpine skiing, baking, building replica props or ultralight electric vehicles, and teaching at a science camp for kids that he helped found.
