We've logged hundreds of hours testing the top 12 portable solar panels for camping. After months of real-world and lab testing, we found significant differences between claimed and actual capacity—details below.

The Renogy 200W Portable is our overall favorite portable solar panel for camping. It balances charging efficiency with portability better than any other model. As our lead testor, Kenji Mowrey, stated, “While there are technically more efficient panels, the Renogy is actually portable so you can move it into the sun, making it more efficient and less backbreaking.” When you get to camp, this panel unfolds into four sections quickly, and has kickstand legs to get the perfect angle throughout the day. And while those legs seem similar to other budget-priced models, the Renogy's legs are sturdier and larger, providing a more solid setup that feels more wind-resistant. It has waterproof MC4 cables for charging your power station or battery, as well as a USB-C port and two USB-A ports for charging electronics directly.

Though it collapses flat, the Renogy 200W isn't the absolute lightest panel. We've seen marketing photos of this panel strapped onto a backpack. And while you could carry it on your back, we'd rather carry it no more than 50 feet from the car. It also has a lower waterproof rating than some other models, such as the BougeRV Arch 200W Flexible or JJN Bifacial 200W, which are rated IP68. But the Renogy is much more portable than the BougeRV or JJN models, so if it starts to pour, it's easier to bring it inside. But for an all-around great panel that is portable, efficient, and affordable, you can't do better than this Renogy model.

The BougeRV Arch 200W Flexible is a completely waterproof flexible solar panel. It's extremely light and doesn't fold, making it the ideal option for mounting to the roof of your van, camper shell, or anywhere else you can think of to stick a solar panel. As Sam Schild, another one of our solar panel testers, stated, “I've used these panels on my van for two years, and after I stuck them to the roof with industrial tape, I haven't touched them since.” These panels are seriously efficient and versatile. “They're durable enough that you can walk on them, too, which you can't do with most other types of panels you'd mount to your roof,” Sam continued.

While the Arch is a great option if you're looking for a lightweight panel to mount on your rig, it isn't as ideal for carrying in your car. Since it doesn't fold, it isn't as portable as the Renogy 200W Portable or ZOUPW 200W Foldable. However, compared to a hard-sided fixed panel like the JJN Bifacial 200W, the Arch is very light. And a lightweight panel won't weigh down whatever you're mounting on it, keeping your adventure vehicle from becoming top-heavy.
The JJN Bifacial 200W is a rigid, aluminum-framed panel that is a stellar deal for efficient power. This panel costs less than every other model we tested, but performed best in our electricity generation tests. This model is designed to be permanently installed on a stand or your roof, and it's fully waterproof, so you can set it and forget it. This model feels wildly different compared to many of the thin, flimsy panels we tested, making it an excellent choice for van lifers and full-time RV boondocking. “I love how much power a single 200-watt panel generates,” our lead tester said, “and the pre-drilled holes make it super easy to bolt onto a roof rack.”

Due to its sturdy construction, the JJN Bifacial is one of the heaviest and bulkiest models you could transport in the trunk of a car. And after shuttling it to a campsite in a small SUV, we recommend you don't even try. If you're looking for a solar panel that folds up to fit in your trunk, check out the Renogy 200W Portable or even more portable FlexSolar 100W. The 200-watt Renogy will generate a lot more power than the 100-watt FlexSolar, but the FlexSolar is more portable. Nevertheless, for maximum power when you don't need to transport the panel, or you'll transport it after bolting it to a roof, you can't do better in terms of price and quality than the JJN Bifacial 200W.
The FlexSolar 100W folds down to the smallest size of any other panel we tested. It's extremely lightweight and comes with a small carrying case that actually fits inside a backpack. This is the only panel in this review we would recommend for backpacking. This panel doesn't generate as much power because it's only 100 watts, and it has a relatively low efficiency of only 70%. “After hauling 200-watt panels all day, I love how easy it is to carry this little 100-watt panel,” our lead tester said. It folds and unfolds quickly and comes with carabiners for hanging it from a tree. You can plug it into any XT60, Anderson, DC7909, or DC5521 with the included cable. Or you can power USB devices directly via the USB-A or USB-C port.

While the FlexSolar 100W is extremely portable, it's not as efficient as most of the 200-watt panels we tested here. You sacrifice some efficiency when you opt for this model's portability. If you're looking for 200-watt power efficiency in a lightweight package, check out the EcoFlow NextGen 220W or the Renogy 200W Portable model we mentioned above. But for an ultra-portable option, you can't beat the FlexSolar 100W. How We Tested
Since 2011, we have researched, purchased, and tested dozens of portable solar panels for camping. Our rigorous side-by-side tests pit these sun-gathering machines against each other. Much of our testing involved measuring how quickly each solar panel charged a battery at the same location and time to ensure the most accurate results. We connected each solar panel to a matching battery simultaneously to ensure identical conditions, then recorded the charge each panel generated in two hours.

Price doesn't always equal performance in this category. Several of the most expensive panels we tested underperformed in efficiency and other key areas. Some of our top-rated panels were also among the best values. Keep in mind that price per watt depends on current sales. For the best energy output per dollar, divide the lowest price you can find by our “Measured Watts” (listed below in the review text and above in the specs).
The Renogy 200W Portable is our top overall pick and offers the best value among the portable solar panels we tested for camping and off-grid use. If it had not won Editors' Choice, it would have won Best Buy. While not the cheapest option, it delivers consistently excellent performance and efficiency. And it costs hundreds less than many other models.

The JJN Bifacial 200W is one of the least expensive panels we tested that still works well. This panel doesn't fold, so it isn't the best for every use case, but if you're looking for an inexpensive panel to mount on your roof, whether that's a moving or fixed roof, this is a great option that won't break the bank. We have also seen some RV users buy inexpensive generic stands for using this panel on the ground. It is heavier and bulkier than the foldable options in this review, but with the right support, it can be made pretty sturdy and wind-resistant.
The FlexSolar 100W costs less than every other panel in this review. But this model is only 100 watts, whereas most of the other panels here are 200 watts. So while the FlexSolar is the least expensive, it isn't the least expensive per watt—that award goes to the JJn Bifacial 200W.
In the chart below, we show the cost per watt for each panel. We calculate this by dividing the price by the actual efficiency we measured in testing, rather than the manufacturer's claimed rating.
The Marbero 200W Portable is also very inexpensive, making it a great value for a folding 200-watt solar panel. However, this panel's measured watt output is only 134 watts. So, the cost per watt of this panel is $1.32, which is more than the JJN and the FlexSolar. You may be paying less for this panel, but you are also getting less power than expected.

The EcoFlow NextGen 220W produced the most raw output of any panel in our lineup at 193 measured watts. This panel regularly sells for 40-50% off MSRP, and this “street price” is a great value.

The BougeRV Arch 200W Flexible is the best value for van lifers and overlanders who want to mount a panel on top of their rig. It's one of the lightest panels we tested, is pretty efficient overall, and only requires industrial adhesive or double-stick tape to mount—no drilling or extra hardware required. This saves you money and time.
Power Efficiency
The main use of a large solar panel is to convert sunlight into energy, so we weighted this metric heavily. If a panel doesn't reliably generate power, then it isn't worth the investment, no matter how portable or easy to set up it might be.
We used two measured results to assess power efficiency: the number of watts charged in 2 hours of direct sunlight, and the percent of the claimed power (in watts) actually delivered when charging a power station. A 100% efficient system using a 200-watt panel would charge 200 watt-hours in each hour of direct sun, but how efficient is each of these systems?

To test power efficiency, we connected each panel to a Jackery 1000 power station (1070Wh capacity). We then let the panels charge their respective battery for two hours and calculated the total watt-hours generated. During the test, we recorded the input power every 30 minutes to calculate the actual output power relative to each panel's claimed wattage.
We performed these power-efficiency tests at an elevation of 6300 feet on a clear day. The temperature was between 55 and 65° F.
The EcoFlow NextGen 220W generated the most charge over our two-hour test. This panel generated 385 watts over the test period, for a measured power of 193 watts per hour. If this panel were 200 watts like most of the rest of the test lineup, that would be extremely efficient. As it is, though, this panel remains very efficient and generated the most power during our tests. If you're going by looks, this panel is about the same size as the other folding models, though. So the fact that it's technicallyless efficient because it's 20 watts more than the competition is kind of a moot point.

The JJN Bifacial 200W generated 182 watts per hour, charging its 1070-watt-hour test battery a whopping 34% in two hours. Input readings were consistently between 194 and 200 watts throughout our two-hour test. Its bifacial cell design, which captures light on both sides of the panel, almost certainly contributes to this exceptional performance. And 182 watts in an hour is 91% of the 200 watts this panel is rated for. That's super efficient.
If you needed to fully charge a 1000-watt-hour battery, which is a common size for a power station, you could do that with either the EcoFlow NextGen or the JJN Bifacial in about 6 hours. That's some serious power.
The next most efficient solar panel is the Renogy 200W Portable. This panel generated 177 watts in an hour. You could also theoretically charge a 1000-watt-hour battery from 0 to 100% in about 6 hours with this model. And since it's a 200W panel, its measured efficiency is higher than the EcoFlow NextGen's, too.
Just behind those panels is the Jackery SolarSaga 200. This panel produced 171 watts per hour at 86% efficiency. This is one of the most consistent foldable panels in our test lineup.
Elevation, air temperature, and the surface you set your panel on can all affect a solar panel's energy output. We've found that hotter weather and lower elevations reduce solar panel efficiency. Laying your panel directly on a hot surface, such as blacktop or the roof of your house, will reduce efficiency, especially if the battery is also on that same surface. Instead, prop your panel up on its kickstand legs to create airflow below, which will keep it cooler and boost efficiency.
The next highest-scoring panels in power efficiency were the BougeRV Arch 200W Flexible, Anker Solix PS200, and Goal Zero Boulder 200 Briefcase. Each of these panels charged its test battery to 31% in two hours.

Portability
While not as important as power efficiency, portability is also a consideration when choosing a solar panel.
We tested portability by weighing each model with a scale in our test lab. We also measured the size of each panel when folded and when opened. Most of the models we tested here are designed to be packed into your trunk and set up wherever you need them. So, we also assessed how easy it was to transport these panels throughout the test period. We paid special attention to features that made carrying them easier, such as ergonomic handles, cable storage, and carrying cases.

The easiest panel to carry is the FlexSolar 100W. This panel weighs only 4.1 pounds and folds down to the size of a laptop. Most of the other panels we tested are 200 watts, and more surface area is required for more watts. But even the 100-watt versions of these other panels are still larger and heavier than the FlexSolar 100W.
The BougeRV Arch 200W Flexible is the lightest 200-watt panel we tested. This model only weighs 6.6 pounds. That's over twice as light as the next most portable 200-watt model.
The Arch doesn't fold, though, and doesn't have carrying handles or a place to stash cables. It's designed to be mounted on a fiberglass van roof, a boat, a hardshell rooftop tent, or another surface without weighing it down. So even though this panel is significantly lighter than most folding models, we wouldn't necessarily choose it for a panel to pack in the trunk with your camping gear.
The lightest foldable 200-watt panels are the Jackery SolarSaga 200 (14.2 lbs), Marbero 200W Portable (14.2 lbs), and Renogy 200W Portable (14.8 lbs). These panels fold down to a smaller size than the BougeRV Arch. And even though they weigh over twice as much, they're easier to carry and pack in a trunk because they have a handle and fold.
The Renogy 200W Portable has a zippered pocket large enough to store a phone or small accessories along with the integrated charging cables. This makes it easier to pack and stay organized, despite the extra half-pound of weight compared to the Marbero and Jackery.

The EcoFlow NextGen 220W weighs 16.5 lbs and comes with a carrying case to protect the panel during transport. This is useful, but if you lose the case, the panel becomes much harder to carry. For this reason, we prefer built-in handles to a separate case. But you might feel differently.
The Anker Solix PS200 (17.1 lbs) and Grecell 200W Portable (17.3 lbs) are comparable in terms of portability. The Anker uses snap buttons to keep it folded up during transport. The Grecell has a cable storage bag and two clips to prevent it from unfolding.
The ZOUPW 200W Foldable (18.3 lbs) and Bluetti 200W Portable (18.9 lbs) are on the heavier side for folding 200W panels. You can still carry either of these on your own, but the extra weight is noticeable compared to the lighter models listed above.

The Goal Zero Boulder 200 Briefcase, at 43.3 lbs, is the least portable panel we tested. The fact that it has a carrying handle and a carrying case is helpful in some ways, but many people will still find it too heavy to carry on their own. We'd prefer to have a friend help carry it, and it's much easier to fit it into the carrying bag with help, too. This panel is best for setting up in a location and leaving it there, so the fact that it even has a handle feels wrong.
The JJN Bifacial 200W, on the other hand, doesn't try to be portable. At 25 lbs, this panel weighs significantly less than the Goal Zero Briefcase. But it doesn't fold or have a carrying handle. This is also better for setting up in a location and not moving it ever again, unless it's attached to the roof of a vehicle.
By measuring both weight and ease of transport, we arrived at our overall portability score.

Ease of Setup
A portable solar panel that is hard to set up defeats the purpose of it being portable. When you're camping, you don't want to spend hours setting up solar panels; you want to enjoy nature, right?
We evaluated ease of setup by timing how long it took us to set up each panel. Setup time for each panel varied widely — it ranged from 31 seconds to 10 minutes!
We also used qualitative ratings based on what makes it easier or harder to start charging with these panels. We looked at how the kickstand legs worked, how much you could adjust the angle, built-in cable storage options, wind stability, and more.

The Renogy 200W Portable was the easiest to set up overall. It sets up in just 35 seconds, so you can start charging shortly after getting to camp. And once you've set this panel up, it's sturdier than other portable solar panels. While its kickstand legs look similar to those of other budget folding panels, they are larger and sturdier. This panel is more wind-resistant than other folding models we tested, especially when you use stakes to secure the legs. It also has a zippered pouch for storing cables when you're not using them, which keeps things much tidier in a packed trunk.
The Jackery SolarSaga 200 is also very easy to set up. We had this panel upright and charging in 35 seconds. It has kickstand legs that deploy quickly, and the magnetic closure on the handle opens easily when you want it to, not when you don't. The charging cable has an 8 mm DC connector, which pairs perfectly with the Jackery Explorer 1000 V2 models we used for testing. If you're trying to use this panel with a different power station brand, you'll likely need to buy a common adaptor. Some panels come with several adaptors so they can easily attach to any power station battery, but not this one.
The Grecell 200W Portable went from folded to charging in 31 seconds, the shortest time of any model. This panel also comes with MC4 power cables with four different connector types, so it can connect to any power station without requiring you to purchase the correct adaptor. However, after the testing period, the stitching on the canvas covering the panel is already beginning to separate. This makes us skeptical about how long it will last.

The Anker Solix PS200 set up in 43 seconds, which is still quite fast, albeit not quite the fastest. But this panel has tons of other useful features. The kickstand legs have snap buttons to adjust the angle. Each leg has four different attachment points at 30, 40, 50, and 80 degrees. Since the legs are on the longer side, it takes a bit of maneuvering to keep them spread out when setting up with one person. But this also makes the panel more stable once you've set it up. It has MC4 connector cables, but they're shorter than most other panels. For long-term use, we recommend getting an extension cable.
The BougeRV Arch 200W Flexible and JJN Bifacial 200W are also notable in this category. They take much longer to set up than the folding models. The BougeRV takes 400 seconds, and the JJN 600 seconds. However, neither of these panels needs to be taken down once you've attached them to the roof of your vehicle, so technically the setup time is zero secondsafter the initial setup. But, mounting these panels requires some hardware and mechanical know-how. So if you aren't looking to install a panel on your vehicle's roof, you should opt for a folding, portable solar panel.
