Our Analysis and Test Results
The Alo Yoga High-Waisted Airbrush is made with an 87% polyester and a 13% spandex blend. These tights are available in XXS to XL sizes. The XXS size is a nice option, helping petite yogis find something in the women's section and not the girls. At the time of this review, these leggings are not currently available in Plus sizes. Some of the color options in this legging are "glossy," with a distinct sheen. We tested a non-glossy color, but it still had a bit of shine to it.
Performance Comparison
Breathability
The Airbrush leggings earned an average score in this metric, but they did a great job striking a balance between breathability and compression. Today's vigorous styles of yoga and temperatures ranging between 85 to 105 degrees (in a hot or Bikram class) mean sweat - and a lot of it. The easiest way for tights to be breathable is to be thin, but then they typically don't offer much compression, which doesn't lend itself to comfort or style. The Airbrush leggings provide excellent breathability, particularly when you consider their compression and shaping abilities.
While some leggings are thinner and offer a higher degree of breathability, they don't give us much compression or shaping. Unless we are specifically practicing in a hot room, we prefer something that isn't ultra-thin. A little more material and shaping can help your leggings make the transition to other activities like hiking or working out.
One thing to keep in mind with this pair, or any yoga pants really, is that lighter colors show moisture. We tested these in rosewood pink, and our sweaty areas showed. We recommend choosing a darker color if you plan to use them during a sweaty class (unless you aren't bothered by sweat stains).
Ease of Movement
This pair has one of the highest scores for ease of movement, matching the Lululemon Align II. We never felt restricted or uncomfortable in any pose, effortlessly flowing through our practice.
Although our reviewers love the high-waist trend in yoga pants, the extra material or tight elastic band around the waist can feel restricting and uncomfortable. Too tight often means we feel like we are being squeezed in all of the wrong places, which can impede practice.
Over-squeezing isn't an issue with the Alo Airbrush leggings. The high waistband doesn't have a tight elastic band and only contains a single layer of fabric. Their design is snug and stays in place while we're in challenging poses and during athletic movement; it doesn't squeeze or impede in any way.
The matte color fabric of the Alo Airbrush provides a bit of texture, which helps when assuming arm balances like Crow.
Comfort and Fit
We love the fit on this pair, and it one of the most comfortable pairs we tried on. The waist on the Airbrush has no elastic, yet it stays in place and hugs in all the right places. We didn't have to pull them up repeatedly, which we appreciated.
Some of the models we tested have enhanced core technology to create that "perfect core" appearance; however, our testers found that these often felt too tight and somewhat uncomfortable during our practice. The fabric on the Airbrush is compressive and holds everything in without being constricting, and we weren't in a hurry to peel them off when we got home.
Durability
This pair earned a good score for durability; the fabric only had a minor pilling after several months of use and several washes, and we saw no unraveling seams.
Our reviewers even took this pair out climbing a couple of times, and everyone felt impressed with the way the fabric held up. Alo recommends washing these pants inside out with like fabric or in a washing bag. To get the most use out of these pants, do not put these in the dryer; leave them out to hang dry.
Should You Buy the Alo Yoga High-Waisted Airbrush?
The Alo Yoga High-Waisted Airbrush are stretchy, comfortable, supportive, and durable. They are great for many different styles of yoga, from Vinyasa to Restorative or Yin. They are comfortable and great for all-day wear, so if you like to wear yoga leggings around town or under an oversized sweater, these are a great option. The only time we'd choose to wear something else would be for heated classes, but they can still do the trick if you're okay with a bit of sweat showing.
What Other Yoga Pants Should You Consider?
Like many other yoga brands, Alo has priced their Airbrush leggings on the higher end. If you're looking for something substantially cheaper but which still performs well, 90 Degree by Reflex High Waist Powerflex is an excellent option. It retails for much less and is our value winner two years in a row. If you are not working within a tight budget, the Lululemon Align II is another pair of top-rated yoga pants that matches the ease of movement found in the Alo Airbrush leggings.
