Pros Fast, good range, good price, awesome flagging feature, very intuitive design, better than average in the fine searchSuper fast processor, differentiates between beacons fantastically during multiple burials, best range in this review, best model for multiple and pro-level examinationsEasy-to-use, lots of features, good range, fast processor, best battery life in our review, excellent multiple burial and flagging featuresEasy-to-use, lots of features, good range, fast processor, great battery life, excellent multiple burial and flagging featuresVery fast processor, crushes in the fine search, easy to use, light and compact (great for beacon-in-pocket users), low stress sounds
Cons Battery life is only displayed in thirds and not a percentage, switch that turns the beacon from search-to-send can be difficult to use with thicker glovesExpensive, more complicated than other models, okay but not the best for newer or less practiced usersBattery life is only displayed in thirds and not a percentage, slightly larger-than-average and a little chunky feeling if carrying in a pants pocketBattery life is displayed in thirds, seems to be nearly identical save for its clear plastic housing to the DSP Pro but is $30 moreDisplay screen is just okay, multiple burial function un-suppresses the last marked beacon in only 1 min, leading to confusion and wasting time, can only mark one signal
Bottom Line This beacon packs in ease-of-use coupled with most of the features that a majority of backcountry users are looking for at a very respectable price. The new Barryvox S is one of the most capable and highest performing beacons on the market. This is one of the best overall models for higher end users but remains easy-to-use and is one of the best priced among the "pro-level" beacons.A top-notch beacon that is stacked full of useful features but still surprisingly easy to use and performs well at all stages of the search and in multiple burials. This beacon takes previous Trackers top-notch ease-of-use, speed, and intuitiveness, and adds a marking function and a low profile design.
