Cons: runs large in fit, pockets are small
Best Uses: Backcountry skiing, resort skiing, hiking in rain
As ski-specific hardshell pants, the Verglas Randonee Pant is an excellent piece of clothing. Made with Helly Hansen's 2-ply waterproof/breathable Helly Tech Professional, they are waterproof and decently breathable. If you are really working hard skinning in the backcountry, there are almost full length side-zips for added ventilation and airflow to keep you cool, with waterproof zippers to keep you dry when you need to be.
We found that the sizing runs large, however this can be a good feature for pants that you will usually be wearing another layer underneath. Our tester is usually a size small, and would have fit better in an XS, but was able to compensate for this because of the adjustable velcro waist. Without a belt (though it still has belt loops) the waist can be cinched in with velcro tabs that stay securely put. We were skeptical, because we have seen features like this before that don't work well, but the burly velcro stays put and keeps your pants up.
If you are putting together a backcountry skiing ensemble, we recommend waterproof but well ventilated shell pants like these, partnered with a ski specific hardshell like the Arc'teryx Stingray or the Helly Hansen Verglas Jacket - Women's rather than an insulated ski jacket.
