The Under Armour Base 2.0 was definitely the cutest and most feminine base layer in the bunch, and it was not at the sacrifice of performance. The top breathes very well, is surprisingly durable, and dries in a flash. If you are looking for something totally versatile in the sports world, a top that can perform in the roughest of conditions, this might not be the best bet. Instead look to the Patagonia Capilene 3 Crew - Women's or the Smartwool Midweight Crew - Women's. However, this is a perfect crossover top if you are looking for a moderately warm, athletic base layer that you can also wear as an everyday top, or of course if you want something more feminine. It is perfect for camping and extremely light for packing.

My first thought when I opened the package for the Base 2.0 was Its so pretty!. My second thought was How will I ever test this? I dont want to get it dirty. But test it I did, and in true Under Armour form, the top performed very well. This is a company best known for its super sleek, super stylish, and super high performing base layers. The Base 2.0 is definitely a departure from their minimalist designs, with its soft, waffle fabric, contrast stitching, and ribbon accent at the hem. However, true to the brand, the top was warm, highly breathable, and tougher than it looked. Test after test, and wash after wash, the Base 2.0 never shrank or pilled, and held its shape beautifully. While the fabric is not a natural one, it did feel incredibly soft and I found myself using the top for everyday activities as well as athletic ones. I found this top to be ideal for Yoga classes, gym workouts, and other activities in which your heart rate and temperature will fluctuate. Its breathability was great, but what really blew me away was its drying speed. If I drenched it with sweat, it felt like it only took seconds to dry again, and once washed, the odor of said sweat was totally gone. While the Base 2.0 is not the warmest or the toughest top (read below) it was highly versatile in the athletic-to-street category. It has a sort of vintage long underwear look to it, making it stylish and feminine. When I wore it out and about, no one guessed that it was actually a high performing base layer. Combine this with its breathability and lightening fast drying speed, and it becomes an ideal choice to wear before and after activities, be it to the coffee shop or lunch in the ski lodge. Dislikes Because of both the style and the fit of this base layer, it is somewhat limited in its athletic applications. While very cute and feminine, I would be hesitant to wear it during any activity which would be too rough, such as climbing or, say, spelunking. Its appearance is more one of traditional long underwear or even PJs, which I think is cute, but limiting if thats not your style. The seam at the waist is elastic, giving it a more blousy look and feel, which was nice for yoga class or hiking, but just didnt seem right for running. This is probably also because with such a fitted waistband, the top was pretty constantly riding up above my navel. Also, while the top is incredibly lightweight, this lowers its warmth rating a bit. Application This is a great baselayer if you want moderate warmth and incredible softness without sacrificing style. It is ideal for camping, horseback riding, yoga and hiking any activity that will show it off! It is also a favorite of mine for simply wearing to work, the dog park, or the grocery store. Value This top is one of the best when it comes to durability. It doesnt appear to shrink, pill, or twist in the wash, and the anti-odor fabric really does work. Because you are essentially getting both a great base layer and a great everyday top, the value is that much greater.
