Overview
The Black Diamond Quicksilver Screwgate was a solid workhorse locking carabiner at a great price. That said, we now prefer the Black Diamond Positron Screwgate which is very similar but comes with the keylock gate. The locking Quicksilver has been discontinued so it is hard to find one new.

The Quicksilver is not as light or highly rated as the Wild Country Neon (our favorite small locking carabiner) but the Quicksilver is much cheaper. Overall, we prefer the Mad Rock Super Tech Keylock Screw over the Quicksilver because it's the same price ($8) but about 25 percent lighter and comes with a key-lock gate. That said, the Mad Rock can be hard to find, is not as smooth with a climbing rope running through it and the gate is a little harder to use. In the past, the Quicksilver was our go-to locker to load up on. Now there is tighter competition.

OutdoorGearLab Editors' Hands-on Review

Likes
While this is not the absolute lightest locking carabiner, it still on the lighter side. It's a size and weight where you can clip a few to your climbing harness without being too weighed down. The gate is easy and fast to close. Mostly, it stands out as a good value. Of the smaller carabiners, this was one of the smoother ones for the rope to pass through.

Dislikes
As a smaller carabiner it does not have great gate clearance (it barely holds two ropes). It is one of the smoother small carabiners but not smooth compared to a carabiner like the Petzl Attache. The spine is a little slippery compared to carabiners with an I-beam design. Because it does not have a key-lock gate, it tends to get hung up on slings and bolt hangers.

Value
This is about as cheap as locking carabiners get, which explains why it is so popular. This is the least expensive Black Diamond carabiner. Because it is so widely available, you can often find the Quicksilver carabiner on sale.

Best Application
This is a good carabiner to load up on because it is versatile and light. It can be used for a belay carabiner but ideally it is for using in anchors, etc.

Other Versions
Black Diamond Quicksilver in straight or bent gate versions.

Have used for every application except for belaying. Smaller so can fit fewer clove hitches or knots, generally a good biner for all other applications.

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.
