Overview
The Timbuk2 Option is a well made tiny laptop backpack. Our testers found it to be way too small for everyday use. Our favorite all-purpose laptop backpack is the Timbuk2 Swig ($90). For a larger and more versatile backpack get the Cilo Gear City Pack ($175). Or, for a messenger bag the Rickshaw Commuter 2.0 ($150), our top pick for small trips, or the Mission Workshop Rummy for mobile life on and off a bicycle.

The Timbuk2 Option has a few good design elements but our testers found it to be way too small for everyday use. The materials are good, the storage options are good, but the bag is simply too small for most applications.

Dislikes
Make this bag 5-10 Liters larger and we’d be happy. As is, the bag is simply not useful for people who lead a mobile life and want to carry more than a lunch, water bottle and extra later. It’s several inches shorter than most other bags and thinner, too. It looks like a children’s bag when worn by anyone taller than 5 feet. This could be good if: 1) you’re on the shorter side, 2) you don’t bring much to work, and 3) you want a backpack not a messenger bag. The Swig is much better backpack and it’s cheaper. Further, the side pockets can’t fit an average size water bottle and the metal clips are cumbersome to attach.

Value
Poor value.
