The Contour GPS is a feature-rich helmet cam that is in the middle of the Contour lineup between the Contour+ and the Contour Roam. It is a solid camera but for the same price we would go with our Editors' Choice, the GoPro HD Hero2 that has better image quality, better still camera, wider lens and more mounting options.
If you do like the sleek design of the Contour and are trying to decide between this and the Contour+, it comes down to how important the wider angle lens, mic jack, and live streaming capabilities are to you. Are they worth an extra $200?
Comparing the GPS the the Roam, the Roam has a wider angle lens and is waterproof to one meter. But the Roam lacks the phone connectivity and GPS. Check out our complete Helmet Cam Review.

Pros: Feature rich, low-profile, good looking, phone connectivity, GPS, many setting controls, bluetooth. Cons: Must buy most mounts separately, no LCD screen, no external mic, not a very wide lens. Best Uses: BASE jumping, biking, hiking, surfing, outdoor sports, motorsports.

OutdoorGearLab Editors' Hands-on Review
NOTE: We did not have the Contour GPS in our head-to-head tests so this review is based on our use other Contour models and by comparing the manufacturer's published specs.
Likes The Contour GPS has, you guessed it, GPS capability (as does the Contour+). Keep in mind, you can't actually use this as a GPS in the field. However, when you edit your footage, you can map where the footage was shot. This is especially useful when BASE jumping, mountain bike riding and when used with motorsports. This camera also streams to your smartphone vie Bluetooth so you can view your footage, something that only the Contour+ and Hero2 will do. Other than that, the GPS has all the great features of the Contour line: easy on and off, sleek profile, good looks, laser alignment and ability to rotate the lens. Dislikes The wide angle lens is 135 degrees, which is less than all the other helmet cams we tested. Having a wider angle lens is very important to us for most sports because often that little bit extra field of vision is the difference between catching the edge of the action or missing it completely. It's a little puzzling why the lower cost option, the Contour Roam, has the same wider lens as the Contour+. Why give the better lens to the low-cost camera than the mid-range camera? In general, the Contour cameras do not come with as many mounts and accessories as the GoPros and you have to buy the mounts separately. The Contour GPS does not come with a waterproof case. If you want a waterproof case, you have to pay an extra $40 for the Contour Waterproof Case and if you want to mount it in the water you have to buy the Contour Surf Mount ($20). — Matt Gerdes and Chris McNamara
