This is one of the lightest
climbing helmets available. According the the manufacturer stats, it is a few grams lighter than the
Petzl Meteor III. However, on our scale, the Meteor III came in lighter than Petzl claimed. Our scale says the Meteor III is the exact weight of the Skull Cap: 7.9 oz. So we are not sure which is the lightest but the difference is negligible. They are the lightest two helmets certified by the UIAA for climbing at this time. We are awaiting a model to test out so we can't comment on the helmets performance yet. It is priced $30 above the budget $60 helmet like the
Black Diamond Half Dome,
CAMP Armour or
Mammut Skywalker 2. However, in the lightweight helmet category, it is $10 less than the
Petzl Meteor III. It is the same cost as the
Black Diamond Tracer but lighter. For being so light, it is notable that is also comes with a tightening wheel for one-handed adjustment. We hope to have a full review soon. In the meantime, please post your reviews below.
