How We Test
We tested eight of the best and most popular two person, three-season tents in a rigorous six-month tour of seven western states. We traveled and camped everywhere from the windy Mohave desert, the rainy Pacific Northwest, the high and exposed Sierra Nevada, and the dry Colorado Plateau. We slept through torrential downpours, high winds, snow, sleet, hail, and a small sandstorm. When base camping we did our best to switch to a new tent every night. We also set up multiple tents at the same time to assess how they performed in the same conditions. We carried them on our backs into more remote areas, such as along the Pacific Crest Trail. When in campsites we offered these tents to others and, in exchange, received their valuable feedback.
