Pros: Good traction, mesh uppers drained and ventilated well, dried fast Cons: Mesh uppers get socks wet in winter, pinky toe area wore out fast Best Uses: Cross-training, light hiking, scrambling, trail running, free running
Overview
The Savant is a light and super-well-ventilated free running/approach shoe. Its design is a cross between a running shoe and the standard approach shoe design of the Five Ten Camp Four. Its use of mesh comes with pros and cons.

These shoes stand out for being lightweight and well ventilated, which makes them very comfortable. The mesh breathes well on hot summer days and drains well if walking through creeks; after getting wet they dry quickly. They climb well but not great. The toe was fairly durable. We expected it to delaminate fast but it did not. The lacing is easy to tighten on and off. We are fans of the Five Ten sticky rubber in general and this stuff holds up great. Dislikes This shoe is not the most durable we have tested because of one problem area: at the pinky toe location it wore out prematurely, leaving a hole in the mesh. One more patch there would make overall durability great. Also, the downside of mesh is that if you walk across wet grass in winter your socks are soaked for the day. This is a summer shoe, ideally worn when temps are over 70 degrees. Best Application These shoes are ideal for warm weather activities, from parkour and climbing to cross training and scrambling. They are OK for running (but not ideal) and good for long hikes. Value This is in the middle of the value range for approach shoes. We have experienced below average durability so long-term value takes a hit. — Chris McNamara and Chris Summit
